Foreign graphite miners have just been hit by a sudden cold snap. Shares in a number of listed graphite miners have plunged in response to the sharp fall in the price of lithium cathode in China. And the glut has been exacerbated by the growing number of graphite suppliers exporting to the Chinese lithium anode market, prompting some miners to cut production. Lithium is already weak. What about expanded graphite?

Expanded graphite refers to the natural flake graphite after acidification treatment, the formation of graphite interlayer compounds, washed to neutral, drying after rapid heating, expansion into vermicular material, also known as graphite worm. Its main applications include sealing materials, filtration adsorption, flame retardant and fire protection, and then flexible foil, conductive additives, graphene precursor and other niche markets. In the above-mentioned applications, fire retardant is the largest market, with the current scale of about 70,000-80,000 tons per year, accounting for 45%.
